April 4, 2011 began in Bremerton as a gray rainy day. The appointed carpool location was
Bremerton airport. Four goats were there ready to go and gathered in a car to stay out of the rain.(ok, maybe we felt we were nuts!) All ready to go at the appointed 8:00 (ok, maybe it was 7:56) – so we left.
Drive to Staircase and Copper Creek was uneventful though with windshield wipers in force. And, because of snow, rain, fatigue of stomping to our knees, we turned back before the top, saving that stretch for another spring day of the future.
Something like 3 ½ hours on the trail. A stop at Hoodsport Coffee Co. finished the day.
Happy Hiking, Jim
But wait – there is more!!!!!!
Having been deserted at the rainy Bremerton Airport, Dick and I decided to return to the dryer
northerly latitudes. We chose the Pope Resources Tract, north access.
The rain remained to the south and only began as we arrived back at the parking lot around noon. A dry and level walk in good company.
Happy hiking, Neil

- Thanks Gary, whom is streaking past the trail sign below
- We were greeted with beautiful scenery as we walked Shady Lane on way to Copper Creek

- Its officially spring time so we took a few floral (ok, plant) pictures

- And since we were hiking (at times stair climbing) along a stream, we share some water pictures

- Despite the weather (notice the coats and rain caps) we enjoyed ourselves as we took a lunch break under a tree – and stopped in the snow to debate how much more stomping in knee high snow we should do.

- And for those that have had the misfortune of falling off the log bridges on this trail (rumor has it two fell on one trip last year), note the new improved bridges

- We ran into a gaggle of hikers coming from Port Gamble on Road 1000. A little later we were overtaken by Dave and Judy also opting for a flatland hike. We saw a few sights along the way.
- Remnants of giant cedar trees which were probably taken down when hand operated cross cut saws were still in use.
- There was wild life in the distance
- And we just couldn’t resist the urge to do a little trail clearing.
