The year 2012 started with 14 hikers, in 4 cars. One car came from the airport, two from Poulsbo, and one directly from Hansville. We all arrived within a couple of minutes of each other. The morning was a real treat. It began with a beautiful sunrise, in great pinks and a bit of orange. The view as I drove across the Warren Avenue Bridge was almost incredible enough to stop on the bridge to get the camera out. Mt Rainier was in full view. The colors of the morning reflected off the water and showcased the new Manette Bridge.

Gathering at various locations, we carpooled. Those fortunate enough to come from the south saw this infrequent view as we drove on the west side of Hood Canal. We had to pull over to confirm it was not a cloud.

But wait, before we get to Monday’s hike, numerous Monday hikers joined with the Backcountry Horsemen for their annual Green Mountain Pancake Breakfast. The New Year was mild temperatures and clear skies.

Some took the trail to the top. Either eating on the way down, or on the way up. Views of Seattle were good.

Back to January 2 (remember to hike all the Mondays; you must hike the first one). These hikers were eager.

Off to the trail, and up to the lake. First we had to cross the bridge. We reached the lake at different times. There was a log jam on the lake, with a bit of frozen water. The lake view was worth a pause.

A log on the trail hides the trail, causing some a bit of confusion.

Meanwhile it was time for some muscle massage.

Then Lunch for some on the trail, and for others, see how dark it was when they left their lunch site.

What started as a great weather day changed at lunch time. A bit of a gust of wind, actually quite warm, preceeded the on-coming rain. As we left our respective lunch locations, many donned rain gear. By the time we returned to the cars, many were ready to get out of the rain. However, as one hiking member stated, its never bad weather, only bad clothes.

An enjoyable day, and we left the trail happy, and as friends.

Happy Hiking!!!!

Enjoy 2012 Mondays on the trail.
