The weather forecast for the Tunnel Creek area was much better than last week (40% chance of showers vice 100% chance of a “soaking rain”) so it was a go. The drive to the trailhead was uneventful. We even saw a patch of sunlit trees. The first shower did not start until we got out of the cars. (It was the only shower, light, but persistent, it did not stop.) We started up the trail at about 9:20 AM

I used my GPS to track to the shelter and back. Many went on to the bridge, but I left my GPS in my pack at the shelter. The bridge is actually where the creek forks.

According to my GPS we went about 6.5 miles in 3 hours 20 minutes with an elevation gain and loss of about 2,000 feet counting all the little ups and downs. The snow depth at the shelter was about 2 feet, maybe a little less. No one actually measured. The temperature was 38° F.

In spite of the rain it was a good hike. The decision to not go beyond the bridge was probably wise. The snow would have made keeping on the trail difficult and there are some steep sections requiring much caution.
